News: Ella Fitzgerald on Stamps

Ella Fitzgerald is the new face on new Black Heritage stamp


With Black History Month less than a month away, be on the lookout for the new Black Heritage stamp from the US Postal service featuring the late great Ella Fitzgerald . It was announced on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, NY...

“The Postal Service is proud to celebrate the life and legacy of Ella Fitzgerald,” said Vice President and Consumer Advocate Delores Killette, who will dedicate the stamp. “Her magnificent voice combined with her gift of pitch made her a remarkable 20th century legend. This stamp is a powerful reminder of her extraordinary contribution to the world of music.” (source)
Ella has won 13 Grammy awards, was presented with the National Medal of Arts by Ronald Regan in 1987, and was inducted in the Jazz Hall of Fame at Jazz at Lincoln Center in 2005.
