Dreamgirls leads nominations for Oscars but gets snubbed

Congrats to the Dreamgirls crew. The hit film version of the musical Dreamgirls received a major snub in the 79th annual Academy Awards nominations, failing to get nods for either Best Picture or Best Director for Bill Condon. On the plus side, the film did receive a total of eight nominations -- the most of any film.
Dreamgirls' nominees include Eddie Murphy for Best Supporting Actor for his role as James "Thunder" Early, Jennifer Hudson for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Effie White, and Sharen Davis for Best Costume Design

Congrats to Jennifer Hudson for her Oscar nomination. How dynamic is it for a first time actress to get an Oscar nod for her very first role. Outstanding!

Will ABC let go of Isaiah Washington?

That's the question that is looming in all of TV land's minds. Today in the New York Times, an executive has apparently stated that "Mr. Washington’s behavior could be considered grounds for dismissal under Disney’s corporate anti-discrimination policy." ABC has not made any hasty decisions on the firing of Isaiah, but there are many upset executives who feel that something has to be done. He has fired his publicist and rehired another for damage control. As of Monday morning more than 17,000 people have signed a petition to replace him.


All respects to Isaiah, but he should know how to play this publicity game. Now he has to play like he has a homophobic problem and attend unwanted GLAD meetings. When in actuality he just said something he shouldn't have. Last year was the year of using unacceptable racial slurs, and Isaiah has continued with the trend for this year. I deeply feel his regret for his actions. Who knows what really happened behind the scenes? Who really knows why he said it? But I feel there is more to the story, and the media is using this opportunity to prove how to really make or break a career. Think about how you felt when you heard about Micheal Richards antics? Is it comparable to Richards?
And another question, did T.R. Knight have to get all emotional and uneasy on the Ellen Show? If he felt that damn insulted, why didn't he speak up for himself when it happened. Was it necessary for him to open up healing wounds when Isaiah already apologized?

SPORTS: NFL History, Two African American coaches Face off at Super Bowl XLI

The Indianapolis Colts set history by winning the AFC conference and finally making it to the Super Bowl along with Lovie Smith, the head coach of the Bears. Congratulations to the Colts and the Bears.

The Colts are my all time favorite NFL team. I am so excited for Payton Manning and Tony Dungy. It's been a long road traveled with Dungy and the Colts, many upsets along with a family tragedy. Maybe he can finally take his team to the top and win a Super Bowl.

Along with Tony Dungy, Lovie Smith will go down in history as one of the first African American NFL coaches to play in the Super Bowl. Good Luck to both teams. Super Bowl XLI will be one of the most anticipated Super Bowl games in history. Stay tuned, the game will be in Miami on Feb. 4

If you haven't heard of Teedra or listened to her first album, Complex Simplicity, then you may know the words to some of the songs she's written. She has written songs for Christina Milian (Dip it Low), Mary J. Blige (So Lady, The Breakthrough), and Trina (Here We Go) to name a few. Fans of Teedra are highly anticipating her upcoming album The Young Lioness, expected spring 2007. I am a big fan of Teedra's colorful voice and her impeccable writing skills-I can't wait for the new album to be released! It seems like Dreamgirls was not a hit to everyone. Diana Ross seems to have mixed feelings about her portrayal in the movie. Diane Sawyer questioned her about the film, and she stated that she has not yet seen it, and when she does, she will probably bring her lawyer.

What the hell is all that about? Beyonce wasn't that damn bad!

Jay Z and his faux dog fur???



A jacket from Jigga's clothing line, Rocawear, allegedly has dog fur in its collar, even though it's advertised as having fake fur. According to an investigation by The Humane Society of the United States, the Hunter jacket on Rocawear.com contains real fur from a raccoon dog, a dog indigenous to Asia that The Humane Society claims are skinned alive for the coats, hence the uproar. Jay Z and Bee are definitely two peas in a pod-both getting in trouble because of animal fur. But my goodness Jigga, dog fur? That's just disturbing, it makes me think about the Fido's and Scruffy's all over the world.

Ella Fitzgerald is the new face on new Black Heritage stamp


With Black History Month less than a month away, be on the lookout for the new Black Heritage stamp from the US Postal service featuring the late great Ella Fitzgerald . It was announced on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, NY...

“The Postal Service is proud to celebrate the life and legacy of Ella Fitzgerald,” said Vice President and Consumer Advocate Delores Killette, who will dedicate the stamp. “Her magnificent voice combined with her gift of pitch made her a remarkable 20th century legend. This stamp is a powerful reminder of her extraordinary contribution to the world of music.” (source)

Ella has won 13 Grammy awards, was presented with the National Medal of Arts by Ronald Regan in 1987, and was inducted in the Jazz Hall of Fame at Jazz at Lincoln Center in 2005.

Only in New York: I present BAMN!!

Only in New York can you make a cool trend off of automated food vending machines. As I was walking with some friends down the popular St. Marks street on the lower eastside of downtown Manhattan, I came across an interesting storefront called BAMN. At first glance, I mistaked it for a Japanese toy store and quickly realized that these vending machines were filled with hot and ready to eat food. All I had to do was drop a few dollars in the slot, and BAMN! Here is my evening snack.
If you are ever in New York, just check it out. I don't reccommend the food because I have never eaten here and I am not a fan of my food coming out of a vending machine. I could just go to my local Mickey D's for that. But none the less, the marketing and design of the store was very eyecatching and kind of cool.

Entertaiment News: Snoop's Youth Authority

Snoop Has Documentary about his Life on FX


Snoop lets us into his past life by teaming up with documentary filmmaker Gabriel London to visit California's juvenile detention facility, Youth Authority where Snoop spent some time in his teenage years. Page Six reports that, "In one scene, he's brought to tears when he meets with a young gang member who calls himself "Lil' Tookie" (after one of Snoop's closest friends, deceased Tookie Williams). Snoop also takes the film crew to the place where he once allowed a group of Crips to beat him up so he could join the gang."

The documentary airs on Jan. 16 on FX if you're interested in seeing another former gang member tell his story of hard times yet again. It's also very unfortunate to know that a young man is calling himself "Lil Tookie," why on earth is one of our nation's youth looking up to a man who perpetuated the cycle of gang violence and ignorance? So sad, so so sad. I don't care if Tookie was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, he still contributed to the deaths of many innocent people-by no means should a young boy idolize or glorify that.

Busta got Busted last Thurdsday for allegingly busting somebody in the head. Usually after one is free from the shackles of the police, one would seek counseling of some sort. Maybe a lawyer, a PR extrordinaire, or even family. Less than 24 hours after his release Busta took his ass straight to the over-rated Jacob the Jeweler chop shop to waste more money on needless ice.

TYRESE ALERT!!!

Tyrese may be out of hot water. His pregnant girlfriend issued a statement about the alleged beating. Apparently a heated argument insued and she felt threatened enough to call 911. The girlfriend is not interested in pressing charges, her latter story was retracted.
Despite the woman's retraction, the LAPD is still interested in speaking with Tyrese. To date, Tyrese's whereabouts are unknown.

I first saw her on the Heineken tour, which featured one of my other favorite artists Raheem DeVaughn among many others (...and it was an excellent show might I add). Gotta love her! source
