Genealogists have revealed that the Rev. Al Sharpton is a descendent of a slave owned by relatives of the late Sen. Strom Thurmond - a discovery the civil rights activist on Sunday called "shocking."

The genealogists, who were not paid by the newspaper, uncovered the ancestral ties using a variety of documents that included census, marriage and death records.

Thurmond, of South Carolina, was once considered an icon of racial segregation. During his 1948 bid for president, he promised to preserve segregation and, in 1957, he filibustered for more than 24 hours against a civil rights bill. ond.



Thurmond's children have acknowledged that Thurmond fathered a biracial daughter with Essie Mae Washington-Williams' mother was a housekeeper in the home of Thurmond's parents.

In a notice filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the pop singer's company, Automatic Princess Holdings, argues that Mary Carey's bid to trademark her name for use in adult films, DVDs, cassettes, computer programs, and other commercial endeavors is likely to result in confusion for the consumer. The December 27 notice of opposition, a copy of which you'll find below, requests that Mary Carey's trademark attempt be rejected by USPTO officials. Mary Carey, 26, has appeared in films like "Hot Showers 6" and "Lesbian Big Boob Bangeroo 2," and received 11,000 votes in her 2003 election won by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Mariah Carey, 36, is, as her filing notes, "a world-famous singer, musical performer, and celebrity." She also appeared in the 2001 film "Glitter."

Goldman sues O.J. over book, TV deal monies

INDIANAPOLIS -- Fred Goldman sued O.J. Simpson on Tuesday, seeking any money the former NFL star received for a cancelled book deal and TV interview that told a hypothetical tale of how he would have killed his ex-wife and Goldman's son.

The federal lawsuit filed in California by Goldman's Indianapolis-based lawyer accuses Simpson of "fraudulent conveyance'' and alleges he created a shell corporation that received at least US$1.1 million as part of the TV interview and book, titled "If I Did It.

Goldman's lawsuit seeks about $1.1 million plus punitive damages, although Polak said he believes Simpson has already spent the money he received from News Corp.

Simpson would not say how much he was paid in advance, only that it was less than the $3.5 million reported. He said the money already has been spent, some of it on tax obligations. LANSING, Michigan (AP) -- After more than eight years in prison, a frail Dr. Jack Kevorkian will be paroled in June with a promise that he won't assist in any more suicides, a prison spokesman said Wednesday.

Kevorkian, once the nation's most vocal advocate of assisted suicide for the terminally ill, Mr. Kevorkian’s lawyer said that his client was suffering from hepatitis C and diabetes and that he had less than a year to live. He is serving a 10- to 25-year sentence for second-degree murder in the 1998 poisoning of Thomas Youk, 52, an Oakland County man with Lou Gehrig's disease. Michigan banned assisted suicide in 1998.



I'm from Michigan and I Remember this case. I feel if you're terminally ill and want to end your suffering and you go looking for Dr. Kevorkian to help make the transition go smoothly, Why not!! I don't think he should have done anytime.

Circumcision Reduces Chance of Contracting HIV??

According to the National Institue of Health, it has been reported that circumcision can reduce the possibility of a man contracting AIDS from heterosexual sex by 50%.

Uncircumcised men are thought to be more susceptible because the underside of the foreskin is rich in Langerhans cells, sentinel cells of the immune system, which attach easily to the human immunodeficiency virus, which causes AIDS. The foreskin also often suffers small tears during

Let it be clear that circumcision is definitely not a cure for HIV/AIDS, it is argued that it can only reduce the chances of contracting the disease.

'I am obviously upset and distressed at some of the comments made by Eddie Murphy to the media,' Brown, 31, said in a statement released Thursday by her publicist, Nadine Bibi.
